National Award for Huron East's Jan Hawley

Huron East's economic development officer is the first winner of the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association's new Pinnacle Award.

The award was presented to Jan Hawley at the Association's National Achievement Awards Gala in Ottawa.

The Pinnacle Award is given for a body of work over a period of time, rather than one specific achievement and recognizes individuals who are accomplished leaders and have demonstrated skills in advocacy, innovation, and community building at their own organizations, OBIAA, or within the BIA movement at large.

Hawley said it's a national award open to towns and cities of all sizes.

"Toronto and London and Windsor and large communities and smaller communities as well, Peterborough, Beamsville, I think was part of this," she said. "There are a number of categories and we've won several times, Huron East has, I think seven in total."

Hawley said she has been the economic development officer in Huron East for 11 years but she is only part of the team.  She said over that time, because of the awards Huron East has won through the association, she's been able to raise the profile of Huron East.
