Two collisions near Mitchell send one person to hospital

One collision led to another this afternoon in Mitchell.

West Perth firefighters, Perth County OPP and paramedics were at the scene of a two-vehicle crash at Road 164 and Francis Street about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

A short time later, they responded when a southbound tractor-trailer unit trying to turn onto Road 162 from Line 36 rolled the unit into the west ditch.

The 59-year-old male driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

Heavy tow trucks attended the scene to pull the tractor-trailer out of the ditch.

The crash forced the closure of a section of Road 164 between Henry Street and Perth Line 36 for a police investigation.

"These types of collisions are preventable. Drivers need to devote the necessary amount of attention to the road and to what is going on around you as you drive. Keep your focus on the road," said Perth County OPP Operations Manager Acting Staff Sergeant Jason McTaggart.
