Saugeen Shores designated as bicycle friendly community

Saugeen Shores is now officially a Bicycle Friendly Community.

It's the first community in Bruce County to receive the designation through the Share the Road Program.

The town received a bronze award at the Ontario Bike Summit in Toronto this week

Saugeen Shores started in 2017 to become more bike friendly, which included the development of a bicycle-friendly community work plan, new bike racks and repair stations, and the extension of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail through Saugeen Shores.

"Receiving this designation is a testament to the effort our municipal staff and the community have put into cycling over the past few years," said Mayor Luke Charbonneau, who accepted the award Monday evening. "It is a result of partnerships between the Town, local businesses, community groups, volunteers, cycling organizations and our local police service."
