Sauble Beach could have inflatable water park in Lake Huron

A new water-based attraction could be coming to Sauble Beach this summer.

Ryan Gardhouse and Mike Robinson, who co-own Ascent Aerial Park in Sauble Beach, are proposing to open "Waves at Sauble", an inflatable water park which would be anchored in Lake Huron.

According to Gardhouse, the idea is to bring something different to the beach.

"It's a water park, an inflatable water park, it's like an obstacle course, but floats, so it's a great hot weather activity for beach-goers," said Gardhouse. "That's really our goal, is to continue to provide new and innovative attractions to beach-goers, people who are visiting Sauble Beach."

Because Lake Huron is considered Crown property, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry must give approval for the business to set up in the water and the application process includes several layers of bureaucracy.

"What we're applying for with the M.N.R. is the right to occupy Crown land, and they will consult with both Transport Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, for environmental impact, Navigation Protection Act, those types of regulations that the M.N.R. coordinates," said Gardhouse.

South Bruce Peninsula council has given its formal support and Gardhouse said that's the first step toward advancing their application.

If successful, Gardhouse said the business would be open daily during the summer, with regular hours until Labour Day, adding they have several safety requirements, including mandatory life jackets and qualified lifeguards on duty.
