North Perth gets slight increase in OMPF funding

The OMPF funding for this year has come in, and North Perth will see an increase, even though it’s a small one.

The municipality will get $6,000 more than last year, and the total will be just over $1.3 million.

Director of Finance Frances Hale said a modest increase in funding is positive.

"We’re just glad that we’re able to have the OMPF maintained at the level for us that it was at in prior years," said Hale. "We no longer get transition assistance."

Hale said like most municipalities, North Perth would love to see more increases to OMPF funding to help with budgeting issues. North Perth had an all-time high of $2.6 million in 2012, but over the last few years, it has steadily decreased for the most part.

Hale said they’re optimistic that maybe the modest increase means a move away from seemingly frequent cuts to the fund every year.

"We feel that maybe this amount will be levelled off over time, and that we’ll be the benefactor of annual increases based on whatever the province deems to be appropriate."
