South Huron's Community Hub Steering Committee is dissolved

South Huron council has shut down the steering committee that was looking at a new recreation hub for the municipality.

The community hub project was centred around the South Huron Rec. Centre, but Mayor George Finch said council wanted to look at a master recreation plan that will accommodate all facilities in South Huron.

"There's more to South Huron facilities than just the South Huron Rec Centre," he said. "We have to consider the Stephen Township Arena and we have soccer, baseball, different events that have to be considered also, so we want to look at all of it in a bigger picture."

Finch said one thing that came out of the community hub steering committee work is that the South Huron community cannot afford an indoor pool.

The mayor added it could take six or seven months to establish a clear direction for the future.

"The new council has a different vision than the previous council did, so we move forward with what the new council's visions are," he said.
