The Town of Saugeen Shores is taking action to address an ongoing labour shortage in the area.
The town is encouraging businesses owners to mark March 20 on their calendar. That is the day a discussion will take place with local, provincial and federal representatives.
A panel of experts will also discuss the reality of the labour shortage as a national issue and will discuss concepts, strategies and solutions. Automation and immigration are among the ideas, as well as affordable housing.
The discussion will be held at the Bruce County Museum and Culture Centre in Southampton.
"We've heard from the community that it is a trying time to secure a workforce,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “This event will bring the discussion on this national issue to the surface locally. Our community and region need to think outside the box and this event demonstrates our commitment to working with our businesses as they address their labour needs."
Mayor Charbonneau added, "Affordable housing will be part of the solution but the reality is that the labour shortage will require a broader range of solutions. We’re committed to helping as we can."
