Goderich asked to consider Safe Places Youth Certification

The executive director of Rural Response for Healthy Children is promoting a community-based education tool to keep children and youth safe.

Selena Hazlitt said Safe Places Youth Certification is a program that ensures that the adults who interact with young people on a regular basis are trained to be able to identify bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination.

"It's about ensuring that our youth are interacting with these adults, but also making sure that the adults in our kids' lives know how to respond, because the sooner that kids share information and the adults can help them, the results are that they will heal, with more of a community around them," said Hazlitt.

Hazlitt said her goal is to have Goderich and other municipalities in Huron County, consider including Safe Places Youth Certification in their community safety plans that are required by the ministry.
