Grey County OPP responded to the crash scene at about 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon on Grey Road 14 north of Southgate Road 22.

The investigation revealed that a vehicle travelling southbound on Grey Road 14 was rear-ended by another southbound vehicle during a severe whiteout. Another eight vehicles became involved as a result of the initial collision.

Three people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries and released. The involved drivers were from Southgate Township, Clearview Township, Guelph, Kitchener, Cambridge, London, and Michigan and ranged from 20-59 years of age. There were no charges laid.

Motorists are reminded that weather changes can occur suddenly and can drastically change road conditions and reduce visibility. Driving too fast for the road condition is the number one cause of winter collisions. Motorists should ensure ample space between vehicles and adjust their driving habits accordingly.

Motorists and the public are reminded not to call the OPP for road conditions. Check the current weather and road conditions before starting out. You may call 5-1-1 for interactive up to date road conditions anywhere in Ontario or call the MTO toll-free at 1-800-268-4686.

Dress for winter even though you will be in your vehicle so you are prepared in case you become stranded. Never stop on the roadway. Drivers who find themselves stranded with their vehicle on a rural highway in winter should stay with their vehicle and await rescue.
