'Special Grants' cut not impacting Avon Maitland Board

The treasurer with the Avon Maitland District School Board says the board has not been affected as much as some other boards might have been over the province's cuts to Special Grants.

Cheri Carter said when the province announced what she calls "Special Grants" in the spring, they were broken down into two categories. There's one group that the boards are told they will be getting, and there's another group that they're told they might be getting.

"We include in our budget the ones that are confirmed for sure. We thought we knew how much we were going to get, for a special grant, clearly defined in the communication from the ministry and we're going to include it in our budget," said Carter. "And then what we don't do is that we don't make any assumptions about the grants that we have no idea."

Carter said they're still waiting for more information on some of the grants and they expect to have that information within the next few weeks.
