Car thief caught thanks to alert Goderich resident

Huron County OPP credit an alert citizen for the arrest of an alleged car thief.

The OPP say a Hincks Street resident called police Monday regarding an unfamiliar high-end luxury vehicle that had been parked suspiciously in the neighbourhood. A check on the licence plate revealed the vehicle was stolen from Peel Region.

Prior to police arrival, a male driver took off in the stolen vehicle, a 2007 Bentley. An officer spotted the vehicle racing dangerously through the intersection of South Street and Britannia road, eluding police.

A short time later an employee from a business on Regent Street reported an abandoned Bently parked outside.

Officers investigated, and eventually arrested a suspect at a Goderich home.

Police also allege that the man was responsible for a theft of fuel in Woodstock two days prior.

Brian Himes, 26, of age from Mississauga has been charged with:

Possession of stolen property Over $5,000 Possession of stolen property under $5,000 Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle Theft under $5,000 Driving a motor vehicle without a licence Four counts of failing to comply with a probation order

He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 26, 2018, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.

Police say whether you are going to work, school, the arena, grocery store, or the gas station, it can be very easy to overlook these routine moments, however, if you see something that isn't quite right please say something.
