CKNX Healthcare Heroes Radiothon - Goderich

The 17th Annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon is Saturday, October 20.

The Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Foundation in Goderich is raising money to help pay for new diagnostic and surgical equipment. The goal is $50,000.

Dr. Aaron Daters said patients won't have to travel one or two hours away to have procedures done if they have this equipment.

"We're looking for a colonoscopy, laparoscope and a hysteroscope. These procedures allow patients to have there procedures done locally instead of having to travel over an hour away to get these done," said Daters. "The colonoscope itself is great for screening for colon or rectal cancer which unfortunately is quite common. By using this scope we can find these lesions early or even find there precursors take them out and prevent those cancers from occurring."

Daters also added that patients would be home in less pain.

"The laparoscope allows us to look inside the abdomen doing what some people call key hole surgery and do procedures rather then making a big cut like we use to do in the past this gets people home sooner and with less pain," said Daters.
