No human remains confirmed in shipwreck

There is no confirmation that human remains are on a shipwreck in an inlet of Georgian Bay, according to police.

The cargo ship Jane Miller sank on November 25, 1881, and was found by a group of divers in July of last year.

A few months later, that group disclosed that after finding the wreck, it was believed that human remains were visible inside.

A number of groups were part of joint investigation including, the OPP, the force's Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, and forensics team and even the Canadian Forces diving and undersea group.

But after a thorough search, investigators were unable to confirm the presence of human remains aboard the shipwreck.

They now consider the investigation closed.
