The Perth District Health Unit has issued a heat warning for the upcoming weekend.
Temperatures and humidex levels are expected to be extreme starting tomorrow, and lasting several days.
A heat warning is issued when daytime highs are 31 C or more, and lows don't drop below 20 C, or when the humidex is 40 C or higher for two consecutive days.
The health unit is reminding people that extreme heat can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke or even death.
People with chronic illness, seniors, infants and young children are especially vulnerable. It's a good idea to check on family, friends, and neighbours who may be at risk.
You should drink plenty of cool liquids, avoid outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and wear loose breathable clothing. You can also take a break in a cool place, or take a cool shower.
