$150K Trillium Grant Celebrated At Colpoy's Bay Hall

The Colpoy’s Bay Women’s Institute has now received a $150,000 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Local MPP Bill Walker met with members this week to present a plaque and congratulate the group.

Funds from the grant will be used to complete necessary structural improvements to the Colpoy’s Bay Community Hall, making it more accessible in compliance with the “The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act”.

Walker calls the hall a valuable community hub which enhances community engagement.

“This grant is an investment in the Colpoy’s Bay Women’s Institute Hall which will provide structural renovations and improve accessibility, and ensure the sustainability of the facility, enhance community engagement and positively impact the lives of residents and visitors who utilize this very valuable community hub,” says Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker.

Walker adds the 28 member group contributes countless volunteer hours to the community, and the hall serves as a resource for education, celebration and ceremony.

Its members are working hard to sustain their work through fundraising activities, supporting charitable organizations, and hosting educational awareness programs and live concerts. The Hall is also available for special community events and receptions. This spring, WI is in full swing, planning activities for the upcoming season in the Hall. Events include an Alzheimers’ presentation May 1st at 2pm, the Annual Yard and Plant Sale on May 19 and the Christmas-in-July Craft Sale on July 21.

In 1927, the co-founders of the local branch of the Women’s Institute donated property and made financial contributions to build a Community Hall for the bustling village of Colpoy’s Bay. This year marks the hall’s 91st Birthday.
