Monkton Native Representing Canada At Paralympics

The Paralympic Games kick off in South Korea Thursday, and a Monkton native will be there representing Canada.

Corbyn Smith is a sledge hockey player from the small North Perth community, and the town and surrounding area are all cheering him on, including North Perth Mayor Julie Behrns.

"I've had the distinct pleasure of meeting Corbyn, he's such a delightful young man the village of Monkton has decorated and celebrated. All of us, whether in Perth County or North Perth, are extremely proud of Corbyn and where he's taken his sledge hockey to."

Team Canada's tournament kicks off on Saturday against Sweden.

Mayor Behrns says the whole municipality will be cheering on Corbyn.

"We are truly 100% supportive of him, and I thank the village of Monkton for reminding us of the civic pride we should have in our communities, and also our people," she says.
