Crime Stoppers Making A Difference In Wellington County

Crime Stoppers is helping police solve crime in Wellington County.

Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington received 724 calls and web tips last year, an increase from 2016.

Those tips help clear 12 cases in 2017 and resulted in 40 charges.

Program Coordinator Sarah Bowers Peter says tipsters helped solve crimes in all areas of the County of Wellington.

She says since the program started in 1988, over $10 million in personal property has been recovered, and over $27-million in illegal drugs seized.

Anonymous Tipsters have earned $167,770. in rewards since the local program was founded.

In fact, 2018 is the 30th anniversary of Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington.

“Every crime that is solved because of a Tipster coming forward is something to celebrate,” said Bowers-Peter. “It’s not easy to report information and we know that these Tipsters are trying to make their communities better places.”

The program, which is an alternative to reporting directly to police, accepts tip information via www.csgw.tips as well as by calling 1-800-222-TIPS.
