Bruce County continues to support the SouthWestern Integrated Fiber Technology plan.
Warden Paul Eagleson says the county recognized that working with the community to bring fibre optic connectivity to every citizen, farm, business, and organization is critical for prosperity in the area.
Eagleson reiterated his support for SWIFT during the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus meeting in Simcoe County.
Past Warden Mitch Twolan continues as director of the SWIFT Project.
Bruce County is a founding partner and will contribute $172,000 annually for five years.
Twolan will also serve on the Economic Development Committee, as they launch a new strategy for the region.
“Having involvement in the leadership of the SWIFT project will ensure that the plan to connect over 350 communities and more than 3.5-million Ontarians will best meet the needs of residents here,” he says.
Bruce County CAO Kelley Coulter say “with the ever-growing demand for connectivity, providing ultra-high speed connectivity is as critical to rural economic development now - similar to connecting electricity to residents was in the 1950s.”
