Grey County OPP responded after a resident in the Township of Chatsworth heard noises outside, and then saw someone inside his detached garage.
Police say the break and enter in progress happened on Sideroad 5 about 4am on Thursday.
The victim's canoe had been removed from his garage and placed on the driveway.
Police arrived and arrested a man wearing a balaclava.
A 28-year-old Chatsworth man faces five criminal charges including uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and break and enter.
