Optimists In Bayfield Submit Letter To Council Regarding Local Arena

The Bayfield Optimists have submitted a letter to Bluewater council with two requests regarding the ice in the Bayfield Arena.

The first was that council delay the decision to remove the ice until additional consideration can be made into the feasibility of maintaining the existing equipment for a few more years. Mayor Tyler Hessel responded by explaining the motion of August 21st stating the ice would be removed at the end of the current season had been sent back to the Optimists with the explanation that a consultant was been hired to review feasibility of the building and the needs of the community.

The second request from the Optimists was for a public meeting on the issue. In response Hessel informed them the questions the Bayfield Fitness Initiative Team had but forward as well as any additional questions could be forwarded to council and council meetings are open to the public so the questions would be answered at that meeting. There are no plans for a public meeting specific to the ice removal at the Bayfield Arena. Hessel says he believes the consultant's feasibility study will serve that purpose.

“We just sent back the motion of August 21st which is that after the 2017 – 2018 season we will be removing the ice and that we are facilitating a consultant to come and review the needs and assessment and feasibility of that building and structure and the needs of the community.”

“We just informed them that the questions, I guess, that BFIT has put forward to be submitted and if they had any extra questions they're welcome to submit them to Bluewater council and our meetings are always a public meeting and that they will be addressed at that meeting.”
