Grey County Council has rejected a Markdale man's plan to keep Grey Gables long-term care home open in the town.
Earlier this year, council decided to amalgamate the county-run Grey Gables with a new facility in Durham to replace the aging Rockwood Terrace.
Grey Gables would be put up for sale to the private sector.
Markdale resident Darrin Patey proposed a plan to keep them both open and, he says, save money in the long run.
"We want a home in both places, both towns. We're here for everybody at the end of the day," says Patey.
But Grey County councillors, on a committee recommendation, decided the county was not in a position to move froward with Patey's plan.
Patey and the Save Grey Gables Group are not giving up. The county still needs provincial approval for its plan. Patey and others hope the province will reject the idea of combining the two facilities in Durham.
