Mitchell Based Armtec Receives Fire Chief's Commendation

Mitchell-based manufacturer Armtec has received "The Fire Chief's Commendation to an organisation:" to recognize extraordinary actions for fire and life safety.

West Perth Fire Chief Bill Hunter says Armtec learned of a neighbouring business that had a close call with carbon monoxide, so they equipped their business with carbon monoxide alarms and supervisors with rechargeable mobile alarms.

Hunter says Armtec went above and beyond to protect employees from harmful CO exposure.

The commendation highlights Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week.

CO is a leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in Ontario, Canada and across North America.

It is produced by the incomplete burning of fuels in appliances, vehicles, barbecues and generators.

Armtec received a framed certificate in a ceremony attended by Chief Hunter, Armtec employees, dignitaries and members of the West Perth Fire Department.

A faulty water heater was the source of CO in the award-winning video “The Wake Up Call” produced by the Perth East and West Perth Fire Departments and filmed in Mitchell. The video and PSA have since had nearly 18,000 hits on YouTube.
