UPDATE: Woman Arrested After Wingham Police Cruiser Rammed

A Kitchener woman has been arrested after a stolen vehicle led officers on a chase and damaged a police cruiser in Wingham.

The Wingham Police Service says a black GMC that was reported stolen by South Bruce OPP Friday morning, was spotted on Hwy. 4 heading south from the Teeswater area. A Wingham officer tried to stop the vehicle as it came into the town, but the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed.

The GMC was later found in the Wescast parking lot off Water St. with the female driver still inside. But when approached by police the woman attempted to bite the officer, then put the truck in reverse and rammed the cruiser before taking off.

The vehicle was eventually stopped in Central Huron by the OPP, after a spike belt was used.  After the vehicle came to a stop, the driver ran off into a field. However, officers were able to track down the driver using the K9 unit.

A 21-year-old Kitchener woman is now charged with possession of property obtained by crime, fleeing police, dangerous driving, assault with intent to resist arrest and driving without a license.  She remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
