Donors Needed At Canadian Blood Services Clinic In Listowel

Canadian Blood Services is hoping donors will take time out to attend a clinic in Listowel on Friday.

Vice President of Donor Relations Mark Donnison says the need for blood remains high with 155,000 donations required before Labour Day.

He says Canadians generously responded to an urgent call for 60,000 donors before July 1st, and he is confident they can reach their next goal.

He says cancer patients, accident victims, and people with blood disorders are all in need, and summer vacations often lead to fewer donations.

Today's clinic runs until 8pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

“As we head into August all blood types are needed, but a particular need remains for O negative blood because it is the only type compatible with all other blood types,” says Donnison. “While our supply of O negative blood has increased to a 3.9 day supply, we need to have between a five and eight day supply of blood and blood products to meet anticipated hospital demand.”
