With hot weather returning this week, South Bruce OPP are reminding pet owners not to leave pets in the car. Officers were called to a report of a dog locked in a vehicle last Monday. Police say with the warm temperatures in the forecast, the inside of a vehicle can quickly become a dangerous place. When it is 26 degrees Celsius, the temperature inside a vehicle parked in the shade reaches 32, and it can heat up to 71 degrees Celsius if parked in the hot sun. That is the operating temperature in a sauna. People who leave a pet in the car can face up to 5 years in jail for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
