North Huron Aquatic Centre Renovations Ready To Go

The North Huron Aquatic Centre renovation project can now get underway, thanks in part to a Canada 150 grant the municipality received.

Director of Recreation and Facilities Pat Newson says the project is nearly ready to begin.

"We're going to take a full look at the entire scope of the project, start looking at contractors, design, final details. We are shovel-ready with this project, but now we have to take it to the next step and hire the contractors."

The Canada 150 grant was for $150,000, and with council's budget of nearly $96,000, with $181,000 in reserves, the project is a go. She says getting the grant is huge for the municipality.

"We've been working on this project for over two years, and we're really excited to get this funding. It's a very significant grant, and it speaks loudly to our aquatic centre and the services it provides our community, and all the area and region," says Newson. "We get people from all over the place, we get over 35,000 visits a year to our aquatic centre."

Newson says they anticipate a closure from August to October to complete the renovations at North Huron Wescast Community Centre in Wingham.
