MPP Bill Walker Going To Bat For Chatsworth Flood Victims

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker is trying to get to the bottom of unnecessary delays affecting some homeowners in Chatsworth from getting much needed help.

Back in April of 2016, major flooding caused damage to a number of homes, and now six to eight months later, some of those families have still not received the programs and/or money they so desperately need.

Walker says he's received a number of calls from people seeking answers -- one of those victims is still waiting for a new furnace and running hot water.

Walker calls this unacceptable and says he's working to get to the bottom of it.

"Winter is upon us, we're in the middle of snow storms and he still doesn't have the ability to do that so we've got involved, made some phone calls and tried to get some things moving. It's just, in my mind, not acceptable that they don't have the money already n their hands or the services and programs that they need," Walker tells CKNX News.

MPP Walker is asking any residents in Chatsworth who are still waiting for help to get in touch with his office as soon as possible.

"This is a disaster. People have lost their homes or the better part of their significant homes, and you know, I would have expected that this would have been a very expedited, a very simplistic process and people would have long ago had whatever they were entitled to and frankly, I was quite shocked shocked when I just heard a couple of weeks ago that people were still struggling with this," says Walker.
