Chatsworth Firefighters Reaching Out in Holiday Spirit

The cancellation of today's Santa Claus Parade in Chatsworth isn't dampening the spirits of local first responders.

In fact, it's given local Chatsworth Firefighters a good reason to go door to door in town.

Typically, the firefighters run a fairly big food drive during the Santa Claus Parade each year, collecting much needed non-perishable food donations for the local food bank and this year will be no different.

They're just going about it in a slightly different way.

"What we're doing today is we're going to go door to door and we're going to ask for donations to support the local community outreach food bank. Since the parade's been cancelled we thought that the food bank take a little wee bit of a hit and might end up with some shortcomings, so, at least if we could do this we'll be able to help out somewhat," says Fire Chief Mike Givens.

Residents can expect to see local firefighters going door to door and residents are encouraged to donate or help out if and when they can.

Givens says if no one is around today to be able to donate or help, non-perishable food items can always be dropped off at the Chatsworth Fire Hall (75 McNab St., Chatsworth, ON).

Givens notes that he will also be around all next week during the day if anyone would like to make a donation.
