Numerous Residents Displaced After Early Morning Fire in Owen Sound

The Ontario Fire Marshall has been called to investigate after an early morning fire in Owen Sound.

First responders were called to the Coach Inn just after 2 o'clock this (Saturday) morning after a fire broke out on the 3rd floor of the building.

Police say roughly 40 residents in the building were evacuated; damage to some units was fairly extensive prompting members of the Bruce, Grey and Perth Victim services along with Canadian Red Cross to be called in to assist affected residents who were taken by bus to local motels.

While the cause of the fire and total damages are unknown at this time, the fire did force the closure of 10th Street and 2nd Avenue East until 6 o'clock this (Saturday) morning.

Police say at this time, the fire does not appear to be suspicious and the investigation into the cause is ongoing.
