Former Mapleton Resident Honoured By Province

A former Mapleton Township resident known for her volunteering in the community and involvement over the years with the Drayton Festival Theatre is being recognized by the province.

Jean Campbell, who passed away in June of this year at the age of 80, will posthumously receive the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship for her many contributions.

Steven Karcher, executive director of Drayton Entertainment, says Campbell was an integral part of the Drayton Festival over the years and really left a mark.

"We actually renamed our volunteer of the year award in her honour so that there is a lasting legacy of her impact of volunteerism for everyone who's a part of our organization," says Karcher. "This is definitely well deserved, Jean has been an integral part of what Drayton Entertainment is and I could think of no one better to receive this honour."

Campbell also worked on the front line, sat on the Board of Directors and even helped create many costumes used on stage as well as being a local columnist and part of the Mapleton Historical Society among other groups.
