Huron OPP Promote Online Stolen Property Identification Tool

Huron County OPP are promoting a new online tool to ensure residents don't end up purchasing stolen property.

The public now has access to the Canadian Police Information Centre database to see if a piece of property had been reported stolen.

Huron OPP say with the increasing popularity of online auction, trade, or classified ad sites, police are often asked to search the serial numbers of second hand items to be purchased.

Now people can do their own checks using the vehicle identification number or the hull identification number, or firearms serial numbers.

Police suggest buyers looking at a bicycle or stereo can check on line for stolen property information as well.
