Huron County Natural Heritage Plan Changes Use For Thousands Of Acres

Huron County is looking for public input into its new Natural Heritage Plan.

Planner Susanna Reid explains Natural Heritage involves things like woodlots, wetlands and meadows and Huron County has thousands of acres of those Natural Heritage properties.

The new Natural Heritage Plan recognizes that Huron County residents have a long history of valuing those features and the Plan first defines those features and then outlines and implementation strategy to protect them.

That would include updating planning documents, prioritizing land stewardship programs supporting sustainable forest management.

Reid adds the plan is all about working with Huron County residents to preserve Natural Heritage properties and so they're looking for public input.

The second of two public meetings will be held this Thursday night at 7pm at the Zurich arena.

Reid adds the Natural Heritage plan has also been posted on Huron County's web site.
