One of the founding members of Canadian Folk Rock Band "Great Big Sea" says he's really enjoying his first visit to the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival.
Sean McCann tells CKNX News he has been to Goderich once before, performing at the Livery Theatre last November and that's when artistic director Kate Johnston told him about the Celtic Roots Festival and promised he'd be impressed.
McCann says she was right.
"I found out about this festival and I don't do many festivals but I was assured that this was very organic. I think that festivals have gotten kind of too big and they've lost their way, but this feels like festivals used to feel way back when I started, it's just got a very organic and sincere feel to it," says McCann.
McCann also says he's been very impressed with the people he's worked with but he adds that's not the only perk.
"Being from Newfoundland and now living in Ottawa I don't get to see big bodies of water so I was really reassured when I drove in here [Saturday] morning and I saw that vast body of water which has waves so I'm gonna go get on my paddle board now and I'm gonna get out there, I don't know what kind of fish is out there but whatever they are they should be afraid because Newfoundlanders are now on the water," laughs McCann.
