Drones To Invade Clinton's Air Space

Clinton-area residents may see a bunch of drones flying through the air on Friday.

Central Huron Secondary School's Communication Technology Specialist High Skills Major students are learning about the short range remote control devices, also called quadcopters.

The students will put their drones into the air at 2pm.

They used the tiny helicopter to obtain photos and video footage they have never been able to access before the new interactive technology. They can even record special events like soccer games.

The five beginner drones help students refine their skills, then they progress to the Parrot drone, with even more features, and finally the DJI Phantom Professional which is equipped with a 4Kcamera.

Students research the drones, and look for ways to utilize them in the world. They also attend an OPP safety presentation about drone regulations.

Through introducing technology like Drones, CHSS’ Communication Technology and SHSM teacher Jacqui Vercruyssen enjoys observing the growth of skill sets and imaginations as students consistently discover new ways that technology can be used.

“We are consistently striving to provide learning that is relevant to the world we live in,” states Vercruyssen. “By providing exposure and experience with interactive new technologies, students are more prepared for their future."
