More Security Cameras Considered For North Huron Wescast Community Complex

The idea of adding extra "eyes in the sky" at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex in Wingham could become a reality.

Pat Newson, director of recreation and facilities, says they received a recommendation from both police and their security consulting company that adding additional cameras would be beneficial to a public building such as the complex.

"There are a number of reasons why you would want to be able to do that in a public building; but also to protect, if a child were to go missing or an elderly person or someone who needs assistance then we would have information for [the authorities] right away," says Newson.

The recommendation comes on the heels of a break-in at the facility in mid-March where suspects smashed a north end door and stole cash from an ATM inside the building.

At this point, municipal staff and council are just looking at the potential costs associated with adding extra cameras before any decision is made.
