First Joint Services Hire In Morris-Turnberry, North Huron

The Municipality of North Huron and the Township of Morris-Turnberry is implementing its shared services agreement.

They have hired a joint director of Public Works.

Jeff Molenhuis is from Stratford, has his Bachelor of Engineering and has ten years experience in public service and consulting.

It's the first hire under the agreement first announced in February of this year. The idea is to pool resources and work together to better position both municipalities for economic growth. The focus will be asset management and how both municipalities can plan and achieve savings.

"There are two different municipalities with two different models as far as how they fund their projects and how they fund their general activities. The amount of assets is still the same," says Moenhuis.

North Huron Reeve Neil Vincent says Molenhuis also brings consulting experience to the table which can be a benefit when it comes to applying for grants.

"Having that top level planning into the future, how the asset management works into our five, ten, 15 and 20 year plans," says Vincent.

Both municipalities hope to save hundreds of thousands of dollars through the shared services agreement.

Molenhuis will start May 16.
