Kincardine Hospital Nuclear Capable Thanks To Upgrades

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre and Bruce Power have unveiled an upgraded decontamination room at the Kincardine hospital.

The contaminated casualty treatment room can be used for decontaminating and treating potential injured workers from the Bruce nuclear site and was improved as part of a $75,000 donation from Bruce Power.

Bruce Power Vice President of Corporate Affairs James Scongack says the company is demonstrating its commitment to being prepared for all potential emergency situations.

"Bruce Power has an ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness and this will continue to be a focus and we hope this reassures the public and gives them confidence in areas like KI [potassium iodide] pill distribution that Bruce Power is on the leading edge of this kind of work," says Scongack.

South Bruce Grey Health Centre President and CEO Paul Rosebush says the decontamination room is the best of its kind in the province, pointing out it's necessary to have a world-class facility when faced with the unique challenges of treating an injured nuclear worker.

He says Bruce Power and hospital staff work together on emergency training on a regular basis and have drills planned for this year.
