Provincial Funding For Central Huron Project

Central Huron Reeve Jim Ginn told Huron County council this morning he has received funding from the Rural Ontario Institute to help research and market his rural lens project.

For some time county council has been looking for way to influence some of the thinking at the provincial level so that they would consider rural Ontario when passing legislation.

Ginn explains the funding will cover the cost of a consultant for 18 months to help role out the rural lens to other municipalities and organizations and then evaluate how effective it might be as a decision making tool.

Ginn adds his hope would be that that could then be passed on to provincial ministries and would encourage them to consider rural values and needs when creating legislation.

Ginn has been working on the rural lens idea for some time now and has already attracted the attention of some ministries so he's optimistic it might help decision makers at Queen's Park look beyond the concerns of the larger, urban centres.
