A snow squall warning has been issued for Huron and southern Perth counties, with Environment Canada expecting local snow squalls to continue, causing near zero visibility at times across the region.
Northern Grey County is also under a snow squall watch.
Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Marie-Eve Giguere says the cold air pushing into the region today is bringing snow squall activity through the region.
"[The squall] are hitting the Goderich area, a bit north of it, and as far as Wingham is concerned I see some some flakes but the bulk of it is if you're going south. Squalls are just north of London as well and reaching to Stratford," says Giguere.
Environment Canada says snowfall in the amount of 10-15 cm could accumulate per 12 hours.
Sudden changes in weather could reduce visibility at times in heavy snow, and surfaces are expected to become difficult to navigate to to accumulating snow.
Hazardous winter travelling conditions are expected, and motorists should exercise caution as snow squalls are expected to intensify overnight.
"The winds will shift a bit further to the north so they should remain south of the Wingham area and south of Kincardine," says Giguere. "As long as you're driving along Lake Huron all the way as far as Stratford and Listowel, just keep in mind that these snow squalls will reduce visibility abruptly."
Huron County OPP have closed a portion of Hwy. 4 near Brucefield, south of Clinton due to an earlier serious collision. The highway remains closed between Roman Rd. and Mill Rd. until further notice.
Perth County officials say visibility is being reduced in squalls, while drifting has increased.
