Share The Road Cycling Plan In Huron County

A committee put together at the request of Huron County to look into cycling safety has come up with some recommendations.

Planning Director Scott Tousaw was in charge of organizing the committee and sought out representatives with a wide range of interests.

The recommendations include short-term and long-term goals of a Share the Road program.  They include a cost comparison of bike lanes versus wider paved shoulders and supporting off-road initiatives like Port to Point and the Goderich to Guelph trails.

Tousaw says over the next year they also recommended meeting with stakeholder groups and municipalities to develop a longer term cycling strategy.

Tousaw adds the province has published a new book called the Ontario Traffic Manual Book that provides a detailed set of guidelines for bike lanes and best practices and says that's something the county should investigate before deciding between bike lanes and wider shoulders.
