Huron Seed Lending Library Expanding

Huron County's Seed Lending Library program is celebrating its first year in operation.

The program is a partnership between Huron County's Library Services and the Huron Food Action Network.

Huron Cultural Services Director Meighan Wark says it's been very successful and they're hoping to expand the program this year.

Wark explains people can come into the library branches that have the program and borrow the seeds they want, take them home and plant them in their garden and then when they harvest them in the fall they bring the seeds back to the library.

Wark adds the program was only available in the Wingham and Exeter libraries last year but the program was so popular they ran out of seeds at one point and had to get more.

There was also a very well-attended workshop and planting and harvesting last year so they're hoping to expand the program to more branches this year as well as expand the variety of seeds they offer.
