John Nater Opens Perth-Wellington Campaign

With long time Conservative MP Gary Schellenberger not seeking re-election in Perth-Wellington, John Nater is hoping to fill those shoes.

The former West Perth Councillor and Lecturer at King’s University College kicked off his campaign by buying those shoes at Knapp’s Shoes and Clothes in Listowel. Nater says supporting small business is a key platform for his campaign.

“We need a federal government prepared to stand up for small businesses and workers,” he says. “Small businesses have no better friend than the Conservatives,”

Nater says he supports party initiatives that include lowering the small business tax rate to 9% by 2019 and creating and extending the temporary hiring credit for small business.

He admits trying to take the place of Shellenberger will not be an easy task, the long time MP is not seeking re-election after winning five successive elections.

"Everyone knows who Gary is," he says. "My priority is to meet as many people as I can to let them know who I am."

Nater will be opening a campaign office in Stratford next week. His opponents, New Democrat Ethan Rabidoux and Liberal Stephen McCotter, have both already opened their Stratford locations.
