Port To Point Trail Group Wants Goderich Support

The President of the Port to Point Trail Association told Goderich council last night that she's not looking for money yet, just support.

The proposed hiking and biking trail that would run parallel to highway 21 from the Port of Goderich to Point Farms Provincial Park.

The total cost of the P-to-P Trail is estimated at 750-thousand dollars but Provincial funding would be a significant part of that.

Monique Mcllhargey explained the Province has announce grants are available for cycling infrastructure, with a cap of 325-thousand dollars per project.

Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is taking the lead, and the previous Goderich council had supported the project. Mcllhargey says they need a show of support from Goderich council to help with their fund-raising. The Maitland Trail Association has been operating for ten years and has a very large group of volunteers who look after most of their trail maintenance. McIlhargey says the P-to-P Association hopes to copy that model.
