Driver In Stolen Car Arrested In Meaford

Grey County OPP has a man in custody after a vehicle was stolen in Markdale, and the accused is facing a long list of charges.

A 2004 GMC Savannah van was reportedly stolen late Sunday night from a parking lot on Main St. in Markdale. The vehicle was unlocked and the keys were inside at the time.

Tuesday night, the vehicle was spotted by police on the 3rd Line at Hwy. 26 in the Municipality of Meaford. After a brief pursuit, the driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. He was later arrested without incident in a Thornbury neighbourhood.

25-year-old Kenneth Kristopher McCool of West Grey is facing 11 charges, including two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, flight while pursued by a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

He remains in custody and will appear in Owen Sound court next Thursday.
