Quilt Shop Wins Huron East Downtown Space

Trina O'Rourke's Cotton Harvest Quilt Shop was the winner of the Win This Space contest in Huron East.

Economic Development Officer Jan Hawley along with several community partners started the contest that followed the lines of the Dragon Den television show with a prize package of almost 18-thousand dollars and includes one year's free rent on the main street of either Seaforth or Brussels.

The five finalists made a presentation to the judges at the Seaforth Golf Club last night and Trina O'Rourke emerged as the winner.

She says she's wanted to open her own quilt shop for 15 years now and the experience of going through the process of entering the contest and doing all of the ground work was invaluable and provided her with the confidence to go ahead.

Hawley adds she believes many of the contestants who didn't win will still go ahead with their business plans and she'll meet with them to arrange for mentoring for any of them that would be interested in more help.

Huron-Bruce M-P Ben Lobb and M-P-P Lisa Thompson as well as Huron County Warden Paul Gowing, Past Warden Joe Steffler and Huron East Mayor Bernie MacLellan attended last night's presentation.
