Buggy Operator Faces Careless Charge

A Perth East man has been charged with Careless Driving, but he didn't have to surrender his driver's license -- because he doesn't have one.

An OPP officer on patrol in Milverton around 4:00 Sunday morning noticed a horse-and-buggy swerving on the streets and proceeding at a 'greater than normal' buggy speed.

The buggy driver sped up the horse when he spotted the cruiser, and tried to make a sudden sharp left turn. The horse jumped the curb and the buggy tipped. All three male occupants fell onto the road, as well as several bottles of liquor. The trio were not hurt, and the horse was OK.

The buggy driver, a 23-year-old Perth East resident has been charged with Careless Driving. He and his two passengers, also in their early 20's, are charged with Having Liquor in Other Than Licensed Premises.

The driver also had to walk the horse and buggy back to the farm from where it had been borrowed.
