Voters in Howick will be going to the polls this summer.
The township has an open seat on its council after the resignation of Richard Orr.
To fill the spot council could either look to appoint a councillor or host a by-election and chose the latter by a 3-1 recorded vote.
The by-election will be held this summer with more details on the nomination process to follow in the coming weeks.
Howick hopes to have the elected councillor sworn in by September.
