Owen Sound Nurses Take Their MPP to Work

The MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound was a guest of the Owen Sound Family Health Team on Tuesday.

Bill Walker took part in the "Take Your MPP to Work" day, sponsored by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario.

Local nurses gave Walker a tour of Family Health Team facilities, and educated him on the successes and challenges of practising as a registered nurse or nurse practitioner.

The "Take Your MPP to Work" initiative encourages politicians to shadow nurses in order to better understand the role of RNs and NPs in the health-care system.

"Nurses have a critical role to play in disease prevention, health promotion and client-centred care," says RNAO member and NP Betty Barber. "Take Your MPP to Work gives our political leaders a fantastic opportunity to experience and see, firsthand, the high-quality care RNs and NPs provide on a daily basis. It also helps to enhance their knowledge when it comes to the day-to-day workings of our health-care system."
