Huron County Law Enforcement Torch Run For Special Olympians

The "Flame of Hope" goes through several Huron County towns tomorrow for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympians.

Huron OPP officers, special Olympians and their supporters will run or walk to raise money and promote Special Olympics Ontario.

The Torch Run starts at 9am tomorrow morning from the Wingham OPP detachment. Once the runners get to the southern edge of Wingham, they will be transported to Blyth, Clinton, and Goderich to complete a run or walk in each of those communities.

The final leg of the Goderich section ends at McGee Motors on Suncoast Drive East, where there is a barbeque for all participants at 1pm.

There is free bus transportation early tomorrow morning from Goderich to the Wingham detachment office for the start of the run. The bus will be leaving the Goderich OPP office on the Courthouse Square just before 8am.

The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch run sees the "Flame of Hope" carried across Ontario by members of law enforcement agencies.

Since the Law Enforcement Torch Run was established in Canada in 1987, over $26-million has been raised in Ontario.

"This is such an important and meaningful event for our local Special Olympians," says Huron OPP Torch Run Coordinator Sergeant Russ Nesbitt. "I encourage host communities to come out and participate this year. Whether you join us for the actual run, make a personal donation or cheer on our participants your enthusiasm and community spirit does not go unnoticed."
