Rally Will Call For Bluewater Detention Centre to Re-open

It's been just over three years since the Ontario government abruptly closed down the Bluewater Detention Centre in Goderich.

March 6th, 2012 is a date that Andrew Montgomery won't forget.

The former youth services officer at the facility says efforts are underway to put pressure on the government to re-open the facility, starting with an information picket at the site Wednesday, June 10th, from noon until 4 p.m.

Montgomery says he knows it's a stretch to convince the government to re-open the site instead of spending millions of dollars building new jails.

He adds however, that retro-fitting the Bluewater Detention Centre would be cheaper and faster and would bring jobs back to Goderich.

He says many former employees at the centre still own homes in the area and say if the building re-opens, they would come back to work there.
